BALTIMORE (Sept. 8, 2004) - Golf fans and service-minded individuals alike
are invited to volunteer their time at this year's Constellation Energy Classic,
to be held at Hayfields Country Club in Hunt Valley, Md., from Sept. 27 - Oct.
3, 2004.
While more than 900 volunteers have already registered for this year's
tournament, organizers still need to fill a variety of volunteer positions.
Volunteers are needed to assist with tournament office administration, to
serve as fairway & greenside laser operators, course marshals and standard
bearers; to help manage the fleet of golf carts; to support player evacuation
during inclement weather; and to help oversee the distribution of printed
materials throughout the tournament.
"Last year's inaugural tournament owes much of its success to our energetic
and enthusiastic team of volunteers," said Joe Rotellini, tournament director
for the Constellation Energy Classic. "The response has been great again this
year - with many of last year's volunteers returning - but we still have room
for a few more volunteers."
As with other professional golf tournaments, volunteers are asked to purchase
a volunteer package and wear the tournament's official uniform while working.
The package includes a golf shirt, long-sleeved wind jacket and baseball cap
embroidered with the tournament's logo, in addition to a week-long credential
allowing entry to the tournament grounds, a week-long volunteer parking pass and
complimentary lunch on the days that they help.
The tournament organizers have arranged a number of added perks as well. All
volunteers will receive $50 worth of gift certificates to McCormick &
Schmick's restaurants. Everyone receives an invitation to the Volunteer Kick-Off
Party at Camden Yards, which will be held on Sept. 24th, and will include a
pre-game picnic and a ticket to see the Orioles take on the Tigers. Volunteers
are also invited to attend the post-tournament Volunteer Appreciation party one
hour after play ends on Oct. 3.
"Volunteers will have an opportunity to see some of the game's greatest
players up close and in action, while supporting the tournament's efforts to
raise money for four Maryland-based non-profit organizations," said Rotellini.
"Last year more than $300,000 was raised for organizations through the Baltimore
Classic Fund."
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Living
Classrooms Foundation all return as beneficiaries of this year's tournament. The
fourth organization - the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns
Hopkins - is a new addition to the championship's charity recipients.
