THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Dec. 19) - Jim Furyk held on to his lead Friday in the second round of the $5.75 million Chevron
World Challenge Presented by Bank of America, posting a one-under 71 at Sherwood Country Club that was worth a two-shot advantage
over K.J. Choi, Anthony Kim and Camilo Villegas.
Furyk was steady, but slipped slightly at the par five 18th when he made his only bogey of the day after knocking his five-iron
approach into a greenside bunker.
"I hung in there," said Furyk, who had two birdies Friday after bagging five in the first round when he shot a four-under
68. "A 71 is still two shots ahead, but I don't think I struck it as well."
With two rounds still to go, Furyk's lead is anything but safe. Kim's 70 and Choi's 71, which included an eagle
and a birdie back-to-back at the 16th and 17th, put both of them in prime position to make a charge. Fred Couples
shot a 69 and is only three shots behind Furyk, the same position as Steve Stricker, who turned in his second consecutive
round of one-under 71.
Nine players in the field of 16 are under par on the 7,027-yard Jack Nicklaus-design course, all of them chasing down the
winner's check of $1.35 million.
Villegas had the round of the day with a five-under 67. He eagled the par five 11th and birdied the 16th and 17th
holes, but the key to his round was his start - birdies on each of the first three holes.
"Obviously, when you start birdie-birdie-birdie, it's a good feeling," Villegas said.

career exploration. Serving members in grades 5 through 12, classes include forensic science, robotics, engineering, aerospace,
