BETHESDA, Md. - Tiger Woods won his own AT&T National tournament with a closing round of 3-under 67 that edged hard-charging Hunter Mahan by one shot Sunday at Congressional Country Club.

Tied with Mahan after a course record-tying 62 by Mahan, Woods rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt at the 16th hole to put himself in front to stay.

Defending champion Anthony Kim, who began the round tied for the lead with Woods and was paired with the tournament host in the final group, closed with a one-over 71 and wound up third, three shots behind Mahan.

"It was a long week, but I got the W," Woods said.  "There was more pressure because Hunter posted [his 62] so early."

It was Woods' 68th PGA Tour victory, his third of the year, and moved him to within five victories of matching Jack Nicklaus' career total.

Kim said playing in the same group as Woods for the first time was a learning experience.

"I learned that if you have a birdie putt you'd better make it, especially on the last day," Kim said.  "Tiger obviously wins for a reason."

Woods' only serious problem came on the 489-yard par four 11th, where he drove into a creek, had to take a drop, and wound up with a bogey.  Woods played the hole in 5-over for the week.

Mahan equaled the Congressional record of 62 that Kim established in Thursday's first round, but fell just short of forcing a playoff with Woods.

"He knows what he's doing," Mahan said.  "He knows how to play this game better than anybody."

Woods, who has now won three times this year, will play his next tournament at the British Open at Turnberry, Scotland, in two weeks.
