Retief Goosen to Defend Title at ‘06 INTERNATIONAL

June 29, 2006

CASTLE ROCK, CO--- South African Retief Goosen will return to defend his title at the 21st annual INTERNATIONAL at Castle Pines Golf Club, August 7-13, Executive Director Larry O. Thiel announced today.
"Retief Goosen is a fine champion and we can't wait to welcome him back to the site of his most recent TOUR victory, said Thiel.  "He has a strong and loyal following of fans across our state that can't wait to see him play again," he added.
Goosen's victory here last year was anything but easy.  Heavy rain postponed the first round of the event, forcing a 12-hour, 36-hole finish on Sunday, which would prove to be a tough mental and physical test, thanks to the hilly terrain of the 7,619-yard Castle Pines layout.  Goosen overcame Brandt Jobe and the rest of the field in route to victory on that arduous day.
Goosen finished the day with +32 points, just one better than Jobe and earned $900,000 for his efforts.  His career point total at The INTERNATIONAL now stands at +77 and his all-time INTERNATIONAL earnings are $1,343,360.
Playing in just eight events so far, Goosen has already earned $1,964,323 in 2006, placing him 9th on the PGA TOUR Money List.  He is currently ranked 3rd on the Official World Golf Ranking.  He has five top-ten finishes under his belt this year, including a second place finish at The Players Championship and a T3 at The Masters.
