U.S. Open Champ Goosen Commits to INTERNATIONAL

July 24, 2004

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. --- Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen will participate in this year's INTERNATIONAL, Aug. 2-8, Executive Director Larry O. Thiel today announced.

"We're always elated to have a player of Retief's caliber participate in our event," said Thiel. "The fact that he is such a crowd favorite is the icing on the cake," he added.

Goosen won the 2004 U.S. Open despite course conditions Sunday at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, N.Y., that critics and many players deemed unruly. The brutal conditions prevented anyone from breaking par in the final round - including Goosen, who finished with a 1-over 71. It was his second U.S. Open victory in four years, the first coming in 2001 when Goosen defeated Mark Brooks in a playoff at Southern Hills in Oklahoma.

This will be the fourth time that Goosen has played at Castle Pines. His best finish came last year when he finished tied for second with Vijay Singh, earning 34 points and $440,000. That payday put him in 15th place on the top INTERNATIONAL money winners list with $443,360.

Goosen is currently 10th on the PGA TOUR money list with $2,327,292 and is sixth in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Also announced today were Briny Baird, Craig Barlow, Chris DiMarco, John Huston, Corey Pavin and Kirk Triplett.
