July 24, 2004
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. -- Just off a dramatic win at Royal Troon, 2004 British Open
champion Todd Hamilton has committed to play in this year's INTERNATIONAL at
Castle Pines Golf Club, Aug. 2-8.
"Todd Hamilton's time has
come. He has paid his dues on the Japanese Tour and with his wins at the Honda
Classic and now the British Open, he has proven himself to be a legitimate
player," said Executive Director Larry O. Thiel. "Needless to say, we're
thrilled that he'll be playing here."
Hamilton captured the Claret Jug after a four-hole playoff with Ernie
Els, the No. 2 player in the world. The two finished regulation play
tied at 10-under par. Hamilton was calm and collected all week, which
contributed to his victory.
The 38-year-old TOUR rookie who
grew up in Oquawka, Ill. -- a town of 1,500 -- turned professional in
1987. He gained his PGA TOUR card this year and went on to win the Honda
Classic in March. His previous 11 victories came during his 12-year career
on the Japan Tour.
This will be Hamilton's second appearance at
The INTERNATIONAL. He played in 1994, earning just 4 points and missing
Saturday's cut.
