CASTLE ROCK, Colo. --- The father-and-son team of Jay Haas and Bill Haas has
committed to play in the 2004 INTERNATIONAL, Aug. 2-8 at Castle Pines Golf
Club, Executive Director Larry O. Thiel today announced.
"This is
unquestionably golf's hottest twosome at the moment" said Thiel. "They
certainly add to the caliber of our field and it will be a delight to watch them
play here."
The announcement comes just after the pair
won the CVS Charity Classic, an event hosted by PGA TOUR professionals Billy
Andrade and Brad Faxon. The Haas family made history earlier this year
when both Jay and Bill made the cut at the U.S. Open, one of only seven
father-and-son combinations to do so.
Jay Haas is a nine-time PGA TOUR
winner. Haas, who made his Champions Tour debut earlier this year, shared
the first-round lead at the U.S. Open, but didn't play as well the rest of the
week. His best finish this year was third at the Bob Hope Chrysler
Classic. Over the years, he has participated in 15 INTERNATIONAL
Tournaments. He has earned a total of 218 points and $346,301 at Castle
Pines. His best finish was in 1995 when he tied for third, earning
$87,000. He presently stands in 12th place for a berth on the U.S. Ryder
Cup team.
This will be Bill Haas' first appearance at
Castle Pines. A recent graduate of Wake Forest, his father's alma mater,
Bill Haas turned professional following the U.S. Open in June. He played the
Booz Allen Classic on a sponsor's exemption and tied for 33rd, earning
$23,280. Of his father Jay, Bill has said "He's the reason I play. He's been my teacher. My mentor. My idol."
