Travelers Championship

The Travelers Championship playing field had dynamic growth today, with the announcement that three of the Top 15 players in the world will compete in the inaugural event. Vijay Singh, Padraig Harrington, and Trevor Immelman have all committed to playing in the PGA TOUR event, which will be held June 18-24, 2007 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.

Currently ranked No. 2 in the FedExCup points race, Vijay Singh is also ranked No. 7 in the Official World Golf Rankings and is No. 2 on the TOUR money list. Singh holds an impressive 31 PGA TOUR victories, including three majors and 22 international victories. This year he has captured two TOUR victories, winning at the Mercedes-Benz Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. This will be Singh's third appearance in Connecticut.

Padraig Harrington is ranked No. 11 in the world. He has two PGA TOUR victories, The Honda Classic and Barclays Classic, both in 2005. Harrington has made the cut in all seven appearances this year, posting two top-10 finishes, including seventh place at the Masters and six top-25 finishes. A native of Ireland, Harrington splits his time between the PGA TOUR and the European Tour. In 2006, Harrington captured first place on the European Tour Order of Merit and made three top-10 finishes on the PGA TOUR. Harrington has verbally committed to playing in the Travelers Championship, and expects to officially commit early this week.

"I am really looking forward to playing in the inaugural Travelers Championship in June. Between the elevated purse this year and the new practice facility next year, this tournament has really done a lot to make this a great experience for all the players," said Harrington. "It will be my first time at this tournament, and I anticipate a great event."

Trevor Immelman has achieved three top-10 finishes this year and is No. 12 on the Official World Golf Ranking list. In 2006, Immelman had eight top-10 finishes and finished seventh on the money list. He earned his first TOUR victory at the 2006 Cialis Western Open and went on to be named 2006 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year title. In 2003 Immelman captured the World Golf Cup win with partner Rory Sabbatini.

Singh, Harrington, and Immelman are welcome additions to what is becoming a very strong playing field. These players join the world's No. 4 player Phil Mickelson; Masters champion Zach Johnson, as well as Stewart Cink, a World Golf Championships title-holder, and David Toms, Rich Beem, and Corey Pavin, who have all won major championships on the PGA TOUR.
