2004 Championship Raises Almost $6.1 Million for Charity

August 12, 2004

IRVING, Texas -- The Salesmanship Club of Dallas, sponsor of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, announced today that the 2004 Championship raised almost $6.1 million in net proceeds, its sixth consecutive year to surpass $5 million. Since 1973, the Championship has raised more than $81 million for charity.

All tournament proceeds benefit Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers (SCYFC), a non-profit organization that provides education and mental health services for children and their families in the greater Dallas area. SCYFC has been devoted to enriching the quality of life for children and families for 84 years. The money provided by the Salesmanship Club makes up more than 92 percent of SCYFC's operating budget. The agency operates the J. Erik Jonsson Community School in Oak Cliff, an accredited research-based laboratory school serving 3-year-olds through sixth grade students via an accelerated, enriched learning environment. It also hosts two Family Therapy clinics, one in Oak Cliff and one in northwest Dallas, where licensed therapists provide counseling for children and family members with a wide range of mental health needs.

Steve Barley, 2004 tournament chairman, said, "We are extremely pleased to exceed the $6 million mark with our contribution. Thanks to our title sponsor, EDS; our corporate sponsors; our host site, the Four Seasons Resort and Club; the hundreds of volunteers and the thousands of spectators for everything they contributed to make this year's Championship a success."

The EDS Byron Nelson Championship annually provides more money to charity than any other tournament on the PGA TOUR. The Salesmanship Club of Dallas has been awarded the Benefactor Award by the PGA TOUR Tournaments Association for four consecutive years. The award honors the PGA TOUR tournament that has donated the largest amount of money to charity in one year.

Tournament namesake Byron Nelson said, "I am honored to be a part of such a successful event that helps children. Because of the commitment of EDS, the Salesmanship Club, and the golfers who play in our event, this tournament is one of the best on the PGA TOUR."

The 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship will be played May 11-15, 2005, at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Las Colinas in Irving, Texas. The 2005 event will mark its 38th year on the PGA TOUR.
