August 14, 2003 IRVING, Texas -- The Salesmanship Club of Dallas, sponsor of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship,
announced on Thursday that the 2003 tournament raised $5.74 million in net proceeds for charity. It is the fifth straight
year that the tournament has surpassed $5 million in charity giving. Since 1973, the overall BNC charity proceeds exceed $75
million -- the most of all PGA TOUR events.
All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, Inc. (SCYFC), a non-profit organization
dedicated for over 80 years to enriching the quality of life for children and their families.
"We are very pleased that we were able to raise $5.74 million this year," said Randy Engstrom, 2003 tournament chairman.
"The Salesmanship Club made the commitment to raise the tournament purse again to attract another top field. This couldn't
have been done without the leadership of EDS, our title sponsor, and the thousands of sponsors and volunteers who contributed
to continue to make the championship one of the finest venues on the PGA TOUR."
The EDS Byron Nelson Championship annually provides more dollars to charity than any other stop on the PGA TOUR. For three
years straight, the Salesmanship Club has been awarded the "Benefactor Award" by the PGA TOUR Tournaments Association. The
award honors the PGA TOUR tournament that donated the largest amount of money to charity in one year.
Vijay Singh won the 2003 EDS Byron Nelson Championship by two strokes over Nick Price. Along with the trophy, Singh earned
$1.08 million for first place.
The 2004 EDS Byron Nelson Championship will be played at the Tournament Players Club at Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas
in Irving, Texas, for the 22nd year. It is scheduled for May 12-16 and will mark the 60th anniversary of Byron Nelson's win
at the 1944 Texas Victory Open.
