The first cut of the FedExCup Playoffs has been made and now the top 100 in the latest standings travel to TPC Boston for the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Following this week’s event, 70 players will advance to the BMW Championship, which gets under way Sept. 12 after a bye week, then 30 will play for the FedExCup at the Playoffs-ending TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola Sept. 19-22.
Just 28 players in this week’s field have security moving forward in the FedExCup Playoffs meaning 42 positions in the BMW Championship field are up for grabs.
A week ago, five players -- No. 90 Martin Kaymer, No. 93 Greg Chalmers, No. 94 Erik Compton, No. 96 Stuart Appleby and No. 100 Camilo Villegas -- moved from outside the 100-man cut line and into this week’s field. This week, those five players again find themselves outside the cut line and each of them will need better than a 25th place finish to move on to next week’s event.
Others on the bubble, but with more flexibility, include 2010 and 2011 PLAYERS champions Tim Clark (70th) and K.J. Choi (74th). European Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter (77th) and four-time major champion Ernie Els (91st) also find themselves on the wrong side of the top 70.
Below are scenarios for the 100-man field at this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship. Beside each player's name is his highest possible standing with a win, 10th place finish, lowest possible ranking with a missed cut and where they will likely have to finish to end the week in the top 30 or top 70 in the FedExCup standings.
