Tiger Woods has committed to play in THE PLAYERS Championship and the AT&T National, it was announced Wednesday. Previously, he committed to next week's Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the U.S. Open, June 17-20 at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
THE PLAYERS Championship will be held May 6-9 at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course, TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Woods won the tournament in 2001 and finished second in 2000. Last year, he tied for eighth.
"This is our event and it always attracts one of the best fields of the year," said Woods. "It's a tournament everybody wants to win."
Woods will defend his title in the fourth AT&T National, July 1-4 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. It represents a new site for the event, which was contested the last three years at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.
"I'm really looking forward to defending my title at the AT&T National," Woods said. "Philly is a great sports town, and I'm excited to play at Aronimink Golf Club."
Last year, Woods scored a one-stroke victory over Hunter Mahan thanks to a closing round 3-under-par 67 at Congressional. Mahan made a strong, last-day charge, matching the course record of 62 set earlier in the week by Anthony Kim. Per his custom, Woods donated his $1,080,000 first prize to the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Woods made his 2010 debut two weeks ago at the Masters Tournament, where he tied for fourth. In addition to Quail Hollow and THE PLAYERS Championship and the AT&T National, Tiger will continue to add tournaments to his schedule in the coming weeks.
