    Nicknamed "Tiger" after a Vietnamese soldier who was a friend of his father's in Vietnam...Putted against Bob Hope on the "Mike Douglas Show" at age 2, shot 48 for nine holes at age 3 and was featured in Golf Digest at age 5...Eighth athlete to be named Wheaties permanent rep, following Bob Richards (1958), Bruce Jenner (1977), Mary Lou Retton (1984), Pete Rose (1985), Walter Payton (1986), Chris Evert (1987) and Michael Jordan (1988)...Since its inception in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father, Earl, the Tiger Woods Foundation has reached an estimated 10 million young people through character exploration and grant-making programs. Programs developed and supported by the Tiger Woods Foundation all share a similar mission of empowering young people to dream big and set specific goals to achieve their dreams. Launched in February 2006, the Tiger Woods Learning Center is an innovative 14-acre, after-school campus designed to inspire career exploration. Serving members in grades 5 through 12, classes include forensic science, robotics, engineering, aerospace, video production and marine biology. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation...Announced the creation of Tiger Woods Design, a golf course design company, in 2006. The first course, located in Dubai U.A.E. and to be called Al Ruwaya, is scheduled to open in late 2009. The first U.S. course, The Cliffs at High Carolina, will be located east of Asheville, NC and is scheduled to open in 2010.
