LAS VEGAS -- Vokey's latest SM5 wedge was spotted on Tuesday at TPC Summerlin, site of this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Wedge designer Bob Vokey and Vokey Tour rep Aaron Dill were on the range handing out new SM5 wedges to a number of players in the field, including Charley Hoffman and Zach Johnson.
Vokey wouldn't comment on specs, performance or the release date. There are a few noticeable cosmetic differences between SM4 and SM5. The position of the "Titleist" was moved above the "BV logo" and the buzzsaw emblem was raised to give it a three-dimensional look.
The specific wedge grind was also added to the back of the head, and the bounce number was added to the sole.
Las Vegas has been a popular spot for Titleist's tour seeding and validation process over the years. The latest version of the ProV1 is typically unveiled at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in even-numbered years.
