In 1962, a then 22-year-old Jack Nicklaus defeated Arnold Palmer in a playoff at Oakmont Country Club. The U.S. Open was Nicklaus’ first PGA TOUR victory and marked a symbolic “changing of the guard” moment for the game.

In 1994, Shell's Wonderful World of Golf hosted a matchup for the ages at the iconic Pinehurst No. 2, featuring golf legends Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus emerged victorious with a 67, while Palmer shot a 74.
