Jack Nicklaus' new Nicklaus Black golf ball will make its competitive debut at the PNC Father/Son Challenge, after the 18-time major winner confirmed he, along with his son Gary, would be using the ball at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando.
"I like the ball a lot," Nicklaus said. "I've played it a number of times now, and I like the distance and ball flight I am getting, and it plays nicely around the greens. We are going to put it into play and let her go."
Nicklaus unveiled his own ball line in October with three different models based on the tees golfers typically play. The balls, manufactured by Bridgestone, come in three different colors (Black, Blue and White).
Nicklaus Black, the version Jack and Gary Nicklaus plan to use at the PNC Father/Son Challenge, is geared toward players who typically play the back tees. Nicklaus Blue is for golfers who play from the middle tees, while Nicklaus White caters to golfers who use the white or red tees.
"Certainly the playability of the golf ball is important to the golfer," Nicklaus said. "Many of the golf professionals at our Nicklaus Design courses have put them on the range to test them with members and guests to see if they like the performance of the ball and to better understand what their golfers want and need. People who have tested the three balls like them, they like the simple concept behind the balls, and we're getting some very positive results. We're very encouraged."
