Ryan Moore defeated Gary Woodland on the first playoff to win the CIMB Classic on Monday morning. Moore, who now has three PGA TOUR titles, had a few notable clubs in the bag, including PING's S55 irons and Callaway's Mack Daddy 2 wedge.
Moore was the first to win with PING's latest iron, which is set to hit retail shelves on Nov. 1. The S55 model was accepted quickly by PING's TOUR staff, with Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Angel Cabrera and Billy Horschel switching within a few weeks of its debut at The Barlcays.
The new iron has a number similar traits to the S56, including a 17-4 stainless steel body and a tungsten toe weight that provides a higher moment of inertia (MOI) for greater forgiveness and an improved CG.
Other additions to S55 include a larger Custom Tuning Port (CTP) -- the CTP helped distribute weight to the perimeter of the club for improved forgiveness and feel -- thinner face and stronger lofts throughout the set.
Moore also carried a 60-degree Callaway Mack Daddy 2 wedge, the same wedge model Phil Mickelson is currently using.
Unveiled earlier this year, the forged wedge comes in three different grinds and features wider, machine-milled grooves -- they're actually wider than the original version -- that displace debris in the rough and get the edge on the ball, creating friction and spin from a variety of lies.
