Cleveland Golf is predominately known for its wedge designs, but the equipment company is hoping to make headway in the putter department with Smart Square — a putter it believes is more accurate than one of the most successful models of all time.
Following extensive research into Odyssey's 2-ball putter, which has two circles on the top that help with alignment, Cleveland came up with a design that replaced the circles with squares to create two parallel lines that frame the ball at address, creating a clear visual path to the hole.
Through testing, Cleveland said its new Dual Axis Alignment was 23 percent more accurate than the 2-ball design. Aside from the new alignment aid, Smart Square's high MOI head also includes a copolymer face insert that improves feel and sound at impact for distance control.
The putter will also come in a variety of lengths. Traditional lengths (33, 34 and 35 inches) will be available in both heel- and center-shafted model. An "Almost Belly" model, at 39 inches, features a 400-gram head and 158-gram grip that gives the putter a counterbalanced feel.
Smart Square will be available Nov. 15 with a retail price of $139.99 for standard lengths and $179.99 for the Almost Belly.
