Fred Funk will defend his title at the Greater Hickory Kia Classic this week at Rock Barn Golf & Spa.
Funk closed with a 3-under 69 last year, converting a 2-foot birdie putt on the final hole, for a 15-under 201 total and 1-stroke victory over Duffy Waldorf. Funk had a bogey-free tournament at Rock Barn and will take a streak of 84 straight holes on the course without a bogey into this year’s event.
Mark Wiebe finished third with a 206 total. There was a five-way tie for fourth at 207: John Cook, Jay Don Blake, Peter Senior, Dan Forsman and Chip Beck.
Rock Barn, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., is a 7,046-yard, par 72 layout in Conover, North Carolina.

Hit nearly 90 percent of the fairways in the second and third rounds combined. No. 3 in the Charles Schwab Cup points. Russ COCHRAN Cochran joined the list of two-time winners in 2013 with last week’s victory at the SAS Championship. His other victory came at the Principal Charity Classic in June. Moved from 13th to No. 6 in the Charles Schwab Cup points race. Kenny PERRY Continues to lead in the Charles Schwab Cup race with 2,760 points, 609 ahead of Bernhard Langer. Perry has been in command since back-to-back major championships at the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship and the U.S. Senior Open. Bernhard LANGER T9 last year at Rock Barn, he’s coming off a T8 at SAS Championship despite a final-round 73. Needs a big finish in his bid to catch Perry in the Charles Schwab Cup points race. Michael ALLEN His T5 at the SAS Championship earned valuable points in the Charles Schwab Cup race (he’s 7th) and the winner of the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic needs a couple more big performances down the stretch.
