Three-time Champions Tour winner Jay Don Blake earned a spot in this month's U.S. Open Championship by earning medalist honors in sectional play at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis on Monday, June 3. He will be the only Champions Tour professional in the field when the championship takes place at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa., June 10-16.

Blake has not played in a U.S. Open since 2003 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. Coming off a runner-up finish at the Principal Charity Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, Blake shot 71-68 at Old Warson for a 3-under 139 total that topped the field by two strokes.

“You get nervous,” Blake said about the qualifier. “You get tense. A lot of things go through your mind — negative things mostly."

Roger Chapman, who was exempt for Merion by virtue of his 2012 U.S. Senior Open win, withdrew due to a shoulder injury.
