PANAMA CITY, Panama – Canada’s Michael Gligic entered the final round of the 16th Panama Championship in a tie for seventh place, three strokes back of 54-hole leader Ben Taylor.
Passing six players in the final round is no easy task, but firm, fast Club de Golf de Panama has demonstrated a track record of allowing players to make up ground in a hurry. Low scores are available at the venerable layout, but year-in and year-out, players have a hard time stringing together consecutive rounds under par.
Gligic found a low one at the right time in the final round, firing 5-under 65 to earn his first career Web.com Tour title in his 12th year as a pro. The Toronto-area native finished the week at 8-under 272, one shot clear of China’s Xinjun Zhang.
The victory moves the 29-year-old to second on The 25 as he chases his first PGA TOUR card.
“I’d say I drove the ball pretty well, but overall I feel like I putted it pretty well,” Gligic said after the final round at Club de Golf de Panama. “I might have had a couple three-putts this week and the greens are pretty tricky, but I just didn’t make any huge mistakes out there.
“It was pretty windy for the majority of the week and I kept the big numbers off the cards. I feel like I hit a lot of greens and had a lot of looks from about 15 feet, and was able to convert a few.”
Here’s what was in Gligic’s bag this week at Club de Golf de Panama.
