- Ben Taylor during his final round at the Club Colombia Championship (Alex Wood/PGA TOUR).
It was the putter that allowed Louisiana State University alum Ben Taylor to gain a comfortable lead at the Club Colombia Championship and eventually win with an impressive score of 15-under-par 269.
And the Englishman’s most important putt may not have even come in the final round.
His final stroke in Round 3 Saturday converted a long, downhill birdie putt to push his margin atop the leaderboard to three strokes.
“I had a couple of putts I feel like I should have holed coming in, so to steal one at the last and give me an extra shot going into the last round was huge,” said Taylor, perhaps foreshadowing his impressive Sunday performance.
The putter was certainly working for him in the final round, as he extended a three-shot lead after Saturday into a six-shot victory, the largest in tournament history.
Despite a bogey on his first hole Sunday, Taylor would make four birdies in a stretch of five holes going out before cruising to a win on the back nine.
Playing on the tree-line course at almost 9,000 feet of elevation, Taylor also opted to only carry two woods in his bag, with precision at a premium and the mountainous thin air adding some distance.
Here’s what was in Taylor’s bag this week at Country Club de Bogota.
