Plenty of golfers have their own signature looks on the course to help differentiate themselves from the rest of the field. Tiger Woods has the Sunday Red. Greg Norman has the straw hat. Payne Stewart had the knickers.

The newest guest on Golf’s Next Wave has a signature look in his own right. Patrick Newcomb, who became the first person to win on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and the Mackenzie Tour-PGA TOUR Canada, is easy to spot on the course with his unique ensemble.

The 27-year-old rocks the bucket hat and occasional popped collar during his rounds, a look which originated at the 2016 Price Cutter Charity Championship in Springfield, Missouri. Newcomb dives deeper on the background of his attire on the most-recent episode of Golf’s Next Wave.

Newcomb is fresh off a victory at the Aruba Cup, where the Mackenzie Tour held on to beat the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. He shared his experience with the team format as well as his time traveling the world between the two tours.

“Canada was the easiest. It was crazy. I was so relaxed, I didn’t have a worry in the world. I guess that’s what led to some good golf,” said Newcomb as he compared his time on the tours.

Prior to his trip to the Aruba Cup, Newcomb battled his way through Final Stage of the Web.com Qualifying Tournament, finishing T30 to guarantee himself at least eight starts next season.

He recalls the trials and tribulations of Final Stage, including hitting driving off the deck down the stretch.

Newcomb is a graduate of Murray State, where he played alongside his older brother who essentially recruited him to play at the university. Nick Newcomb was already at Murray State and convinced his brother to attend after high school.

“You need to come here. We’ll win. If you come, you’ll play as a freshman and we’ll win,” Nick told his younger brother.

Patrick credits much of his success to the bond he made with his brother while in college and striving to beat all the records set by Nick.

Other tales from the episode include the story behind his Twitter handle @ThreeWiggle99, his love for video games, and the worst Christmas present he’s ever received, which is worth the listen in itself.
