PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The PGA TOUR announced on Monday the 2017 Web.com Tour schedule, which features 26 tournaments played in 16 states and five countries outside the United States, and culminates with the four-event Web.com Tour Finals in September and October.
The season-long chase for 50 available PGA TOUR cards encompasses a 22-event Regular Season that runs from The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic in January through the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft-Heinz in late August, before giving way to the fifth annual Web.com Tour Finals, which will culminate with the season-ending Web.com Tour Championship in Atlantic Beach, Florida.
Twelve events will air on Golf Channel, including all four Web.com Tour Finals tournaments. The Web.com Tour will be seen in 180 other countries and territories, reaching a potential 300 million households across 35 channels outside the United States via the PGA TOUR’s international broadcasting operation.
“With more than 450 PGA TOUR victories accumulated by former Web.com Tour players, the Tour is developing the game’s next generation of stars,” said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. “Web.com Tour players arrive on the PGA TOUR stage prepared to win from day one.”
The first four years of the Web.com Tour Finals have created a dramatic conclusion to the season-long chase for the 50 available PGA TOUR cards, with a host of the graduates finding immediate success on TOUR.
The 2015-16 PGA TOUR season saw Emiliano Grillo (Safeway Open), Smylie Kaufman (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open) and Peter Malnati (Sanderson Farms Championship) win in the first four weeks of the year, while Cody Gribble (Sanderson Farms Championship), Rod Pampling (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open) and Mackenzie Hughes (The RSM Classic) earned three of the first seven titles of the 2016-17 season after competing in the Web.com Tour Finals. Pampling, who won on the PGA TOUR in 2004 and 2006, used the Web.com Tour Finals to earn a return trip to the TOUR, where he earned career victory No. 3 in his 342nd start.
“We are excited to continue our support of these important sports events and help showcase golf’s rising stars,” said David L. Brown, chairman, CEO, and president of Web.com. “It is a wonderful way for us to support a passion for golf shared by millions of small business owners across the United States and around the world while making a positive contribution in local communities that reaches far beyond golf.”
The 2017 season opens with two events in The Bahamas. The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic will be contested at Sandals Emerald Bay Golf Course the week of January 5-11, while The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic will be held at The Abaco Club the week of January 19-25. Both tournaments will feature unprecedented Sunday-Wednesday competition schedules, with all four rounds of each event carried live on Golf Channel.
“We are excited for the 2017 Web.com Tour season, with three new events on the schedule allowing for a 26-tournament calendar, including the fifth annual Web.com Tour Finals,” said Web.com Tour President Bill Calfee. “Our season-opening events in The Bahamas highlight our efforts to secure unique and innovative methods through which to bring the Tour to both our fans and players.”
The Tour will feature back-to-back events in Latin America in mid-February, with the Club Colombia Championship by Servientrega in Bogota, Colombia the week of February 6-12, and the Panama Claro Championship the week of February 13-19 in Panama City, Panama.
The 26th annual Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by NACHER will return to Broussard, Louisiana, the week of March 20-26, while the season’s third televised event – the United Leasing & Finance Championship – will be contested at heralded Victoria National Golf Club in Newburgh, Indiana, the week of April 17-23.
The final two international events of the 2017 season will be contested in back-to-back weeks starting in late April, with the El Bosque Mexico Championship in Leon, Mexico set for April 24-30, and the second annual Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic the following week.
The Tour will be off the week of THE PLAYERS Championship (May 8-14), but will return with the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation the week of May 15-21, where all four rounds of play will be broadcast on Golf Channel. The tournament, contested over three courses across the Upstate of South Carolina, welcomes Furman University Golf Club to the 2017 rotation, joining Thornblade Club and The Preserve at Verdae.
Beginning with the Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, North Carolina, the week of May 29-June 4, the Web.com Tour will play 14 straight weeks through the summer months, concluding with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, which will kick off the Web.com Tour Finals.
The June slate features the televised Rust-Oleum Championship (June 5-11), as well as the Air Capital Classic (June 12-18), Lincoln Land Charity Championship (June 19-25) and Nashville Golf Open (June 26-July 2).
The LECOM Health Challenge (July 3-9) and Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank (July 10-16) will be the second set of back-to-back televised events of the 2017 season, with Golf Channel carrying coverage of all four rounds for each tournament.
The Pinnacle Bank Championship, set for July 17-23, marks a return to the Omaha, Nebraska, market for the Web.com Tour after an 18-year run ended in 2013. The inaugural event will be contested at The Club at Indian Creek in nearby Elkhorn, Nebraska, with a five-year deal in place through the 2021 season.
The season-long chase to finish inside The 25 will take form in late summer, with a four-week stretch featuring the Digital Ally Open (July 24-30), Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae (July 31-August 6), Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper (August 7-13) and News Sentinel Open presented by Pilot (August 14-20).
The Regular Season finale, the WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft-Heinz, will return to Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club the week of August 21-27 for a fourth straight year, where the first 25 PGA TOUR cards for the 2017-18 season will be determined.
The 2017 Web.com Tour Finals will begin the following week with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, which will be held at Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio on August 28-September 3.
Following a week off, the Finals will conclude with the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft Nabisco (September 11-17), the DAP Championship benefitting the LeBron James Foundation (September 18-24) and the Web.com Tour Championship, which will return to Atlantic Beach Country Club in Atlantic Beach, Florida, the week of September 25-October 1.
The season-ending Web.com Tour Championship will finalize the second set of 25 PGA TOUR cards for 2017-18 and determine player positioning in the priority ranking system, which is used to form fields for TOUR events, for all 50 card recipients.
