Notes: Tour Finals kick off at Hotel Fitness Championship

WEB.COM TOUR FINALS DEBUT THIS WEEK – Twenty-one Regular Season events have set the stage for the first Tour Finals, which get underway on Thursday at the Hotel Fitness Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club. The Fort Wayne, Ind. event will be followed by the Chiquita Classic outside Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 5-8), Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio (Sept. 12-15) and Tour Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (Sept. 26-29).

FIRST-RATE VENUE – Host Sycamore Hills Golf Club is one of Indiana’s top-ranked golf courses. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened for play in 1987. In 2011-12, it was ranked in Golf Digest’s list of “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses”. Sycamore Hills has hosted numerous state and PGA section events, as well as the Junior PGA Championship and last month’s USGA Junior Girls Championship.

25 BREATHING A LITTLE EASIERTwenty-five PGA TOUR cards were secured on Sunday at the Cox Classic. An additional 25 cards are on the line in the Finals based on a separate four-event money list, as well as the all-important eligibility positioning.

ROOKIE LINEUP – Nine of the 25 who earned cards will be first-time members of the PGA TOUR – Chesson Hadley, Kevin Tway, Bronson La’Cassie, Will Wilcox, Brice Garnett, Peter Malnati, Benjamin Alvarado, Wes Roach and Kevin Foley.

REGULAR SEASON NO. 1 – Michael Putnam wrapped up the top spot on the Regular Season money list Sunday in Omaha. He finished with $450,184, $50,415 ahead of No. 2 Ben Martin. Putnam's earnings were the fifth most in Tour history. He becomes fully exempt on the PGA TOUR in 2013-14 and receives an invitation to THE PLAYERS in May.

CRUEL RESULT – When Bronson La'Cassie birdied the last hole on Sunday to get into a playoff, John Peterson, who was playing in the same group, fell from 21st to 30th.


-- Four players who were outside the top 25 at the beginning of last week played their way in to secure TOUR cards - Bronson La'Cassie (33 to 6), Matt Bettencourt (63 to 16), Miguel Angel Carballo (29 to 23) and Wes Roach (26 to 22).

-- The four players displaced in the top 25 were Steven Alker (22 to 26), Ashley Hall (23 to 27), Mathew Goggin (24 to 28) and Patrick Cantlay (25 to 29).

-- Nick Flanagan edged out fellow Aussie James Nitties for the 75th and final Tour spot in the Finals.

GOLF CHANNEL IN HD – All four rounds of this week's Hotel Fitness Championship will air on Golf Channel in high definition.

700th EVENT – The Hotel Fitness Championship is the 700th Tour event.

WEB.COM TOUR QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT BEGINS THIS WEEK – The Pre-Qualifying stage for the 2013 Tour Qualifying Tournament begins this week (Aug. 28-30) with events in Nebraska City, Neb. and Hollister, Calif. Additional Pre-Qualifiers will take place Sept. 4-6 in Spring, Texas and Brunswick, Ga. and Sept. 11-13 in West Palm Beach, Fla. and La Quinta, Calif. These initial qualifiers will be followed by First Stage in October (12 sites), Second Stage in November (six sites), then the Finals at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. Dec. 12-17.

DID YOU KNOW? Cox Classic winner Bronson La'Cassie of Brisbane, Australia is the only four-time All-American in the history of University of Minnesota golf.
