Andres Romero made a hole-in-one with a 7-iron on the 203-yard, par-3 17th in Thursday's first round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He shot a first-round 67 at TPC Summerlin.
"I wasn't sure it was going to get there, so I knew I wanted to hit it pretty well, hit it pretty hard with a draw over towards the right bunker, and when it came off the club face, I knew I had hit it perfectly," Romero said through a translator. "As soon as it hit the green, I heard the crowd starting to applaud, and I knew it was on the right line, and it just followed that line and trickled in."
Romero has an eventful recent history at the Shriners. He shot 61-81 last year to miss the cut.
