NAPA, Calif. -- Billy Hurley III made the season's first hole-in-one, but missed the cut at the Frys.com Open. Mark Hubbard's ace came a few minutes later and was part of the tournament's low round.
Hurley III used a 6-iron to ace the 182-yard 15th hole. He made 5s on the next three holes, playing them in 1 over par, to shoot a second-round 74 and miss the cut by one shot. He finished 36 holes at Silverado Resort at even-par 144 (70-74).
Hubbard, who is making his first PGA TOUR start as a member, used a 5-iron to ace the 198-yard, par-3 seventh hole, his 16th of the day. The product of San Jose State is tied for fourth place halfway through the Frys.com Open, two shots behind leader Martin Laird. Hubbard nearly made an eagle on the next hole, hitting a sand wedge to 1 foot.
This was Hubbard's second ace of 2014. He also made a hole-in-one in the Web.com Tour's Chile Classic.
"To have it in my first PGA TOUR event as a PGA TOUR member, is pretty cool," Hubbard said.
His caddie, Yohann Benson, even wrote down the time of the ace: 5:58 p.m.
