- Ernis Els bought the Cadillac Escalade that was his courtesy car last week at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Ernie Els settled in behind the wheel of the white Cadillac Escalade and immediately felt comfortable.
And the more Els drove his courtesy car last week at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, the more he liked it.
So he bought one. Not just any brand new Escalade from any dealer, though. He bought the very same Cadillac that he had been driving in Akron.
"I loved it so much I had to have it," Els said with a grin. "... This thing was beautiful. The interior was just perfect."
His trainer drove the Escalade from Ohio to Louisville, where Els is playing in the PGA Championship this week. He will then drive the car to Jupiter, Fla., where the four-time major champion has a home.
"He loves driving," Els said. "So by the time it gets there, it's going to be driving in nicely."
Usually, it's the fans in the city where the PGA TOUR event is played who get the opportunity to purchase these slightly-used cars after the tournament is over. But Els liked his. He knew it was equipped exactly the way he wanted, and he liked the way it felt on the road.
So he bought it. He says he's never done anything quite like that before.
"I mean I've loved cars before, obviously," Els said. "Every week some car company sponsors our cars and so on. I can't believe nobody's ever (bought their courtesy car). You know, if you like something might as well get it.
"I'm happy it's a nice story."
