Argentina’s Sebastian Saavedra aced the par-3 12th hole at Hidden Valley Golf Club Monday en route to an 8-under 64 and a qualifying spot into this week’s Barracuda Championship at Montreux.
The 28-year-old Buenos Aires native is making his second start on the PGA TOUR. In June, he Monday qualified for the Travelers Championship, but he went on to miss the cut.
Saavedra has also played on PGA TOUR Canada and NEC Series – PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. He currently ranks 45th on the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica Order of Merit.
Kevin Lucas, former University of Nevada golfer and 25-year-old Folsom, California native, fired a 6-under 66 to earn his way into this week’s field – with his only professional appearance coming recently with a tied for 29th finish at Web.com Tour’s Utah Championship presented by Zions Bank.
Also shooting 66 to qualify was 26-year-old Oregon native Jesse Schutte, who played two years of golf at Oklahoma before returning to his home state to play at Oregon State. A PGA TOUR Q-school finalist in 2011, Schutte is making his PGA TOUR debut this week.
Local Reno PGA professional Stuart Smith, 52, qualified with a 66. He missed the cut here in 2012.
This year's Barracuda Championship Monday qualifier had 58 participants.
