  • Owen pulls AT&T twin bill

Country music star Jake Owen may very well have the busiest week of all competitors in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Owen and pro-am teammate Jordan Spieth teed off on Friday at 9:33 a.m. Pacific Time at Monterey Peninsula Country Club and finished at 3:27 p.m. Owen rushed off the green after he and Spieth made a team-birdie 2 at No. 9 to move to T4 in the pro-am portion of the golf tournament. Owen quickly jumped in a car heading to the airport because he was also performing in at a 7:30 p.m. concert at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

"All I know is that he said he will be back on Saturday morning for our 10:01 a.m. tee time," said Spieth after his round on Friday.

Spieth, a Dallas native, is tied for first with San Antonio resident Jimmy Walker at 9 under after round two. Just because he is tied for the lead, don't count on Spieth to change his relaxed approach on the weekend.

"It's cool to have a team event," said Spieth. "We don't have that very often on TOUR. I'm a fan of both of them (Jake Owen and Joe Don Rooney) and their music. We're just having a great time. It just feels a little more relaxed."

Also this week, THE PLAYERS Championship, along with RCA Nashville, announced that Owen will perform on Wednesday, May 7, as part of the tournament’s Military Appreciation Day. Owen’s performance will take place on the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse Lawn and conclude a day of special activities and programs that celebrate the men and women of the Armed Forces. THE PLAYERS 2014 returns to THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass from May 6-11.

For nearly a decade, Vero Beach-native Jake Owen has been delivering chart-topping country hits, including four consecutive No. 1 singles since 2011. Owen earned GRAMMY and CMA nominations in 2008 with his revival of “Life in A Northern Town” with Sugarland and Little Big Town, and in 2009 he was named Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music. Owen’s first headlining tour, CMT ON TOUR JAKE OWEN: THE SUMMER NEVER ENDS 2012, made CMT history for the most sold-out shows in a row for the annual nationwide tour. Owen is launching his second headlining tour in March 2014 - JAKE OWEN’S DAYS OF GOLD TOUR. The 55-city plus tour also stars Eli Young Band* along with Parmalee*, Thomas Rhett* and The Cadillac Three. (*select dates).
