Inside the numbers on Baird, Kirk

By Brian Wacker, PGATOUR.COM

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Leaders Chris Kirk and Briny Baird will tee off in the day's final group (along with Kevin Stadler, who's one back) in a half hour.

How they got to that position isn't all that dissimilar even if not much else about their games is.

In eight rounds in the new 2013-14 season, Kirk ranks 131st in greens in regulation hitting only 98 of 144 greens. This week, he's 42 of 54, however (up nearly 10 percent), and ranks ninth in the field.

Pretty good, especially when you consider the windy conditions he and the rest of the field has faced.

Kirk is also third in proximity to the hole, averaging 29 feet, 3 inches on his approach shots.

Baird, meanwhile, is in the top 10 in driving accuracy and greens in regulation this week. He also leads the field in par-3 scoring, playing the par 3s in 6 under, which is seven strokes better than the field average of 1 over.
