Monday qualifiers: McGladrey Classic

By Michael Curet, PGATOUR.COM contributor

James Vargas and Kyle Reifers won medalist honors in Monday's qualifier for The McGladrey Classic with rounds of 3-under 67 at Brunswick (Ga.) Country Club.
Also qualifying were Eric Axley and Josh Broadaway, shooting rounds of 68 and eliminating Phil Hendrickson and Darren Stiles in a playoff.

Vargas, a 29-year-old Miami resident who competed in the "Big Break X: Michigan" on The Golf Channel in 2008, played collegiate golf at University of Florida where he was a teammate of TOUR veteran Camilo Villegas. Vargas missed the cut last year in his only Web.com Tour start at the 2012 Soboba Golf Classic presented by Hub International.

Reifers, 30-year-old  Atlanta resident and former Wake Forest golfer, tied for 67th just weeks ago in the Shriners Hospital for Children's Open.  He made two of four cuts during the 2013 season on the PGA TOUR, including a tie for fifth at the Sanderson Farms Championship. With this week's entry in The McGladrey Classic field, Reifers will be making his 62nd start on TOUR.

The lefthanded Axley, a 39-year-old from Knoxville, Tenn., won the 2006 Valero Texas Open on the PGA TOUR but has made only seven starts on the PGA TOUR since 2011.  Axley withdrew and missed the cut in his only two starts on PGA TOUR in 2013 while also playing in six events on the Web.com Tour last season.

Broadaway, a Web.com Tour veteran, will be making just his second PGA TOUR start after tying for 43rd in the 2011 Honda Classic. During the 2013 Web.com Tour season, the 34-year-old former Troy University golfer and Georgia native, tied for fourth at the Rex Hospital Open.
