Younger Koepka wins college event

By Sean Martin, PGATOUR.COM

The Koepka family has had plenty to celebrate the past few days. Brooks Koepka, 23, finished third Sunday at the Frys.com Open. Chase Koepka, a sophomore at the University of South Florida, won a college event two days later.

Chase shot 10-under 206 (68-69-69) to win the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic by two shots Tuesday at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Ga. It was the second win in three starts this season for Koepka, who started the week at No. 16 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.

The Frys.com Open was Koepka's first TOUR start, excluding majors; he was in the field on a sponsor exemption. His third-place finish earned him a start in this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He can earn special temporary membership with a three-way tie for third or better this week.

Brooks turned pro last June and has won four times in 20 starts on the Challenge Tour, Europe's version of the Web.com Tour. He has status on the European Tour for the remainder this year and 2014 after winning three Challenge Tour titles in 2013. He rose from 100th to 81st in the Official World Golf Ranking after the Frys.com Open.
