Beljan wins New Mexico Open

PGA TOUR winner Charlie Beljan isn’t at the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola, but he still won a golf tournament this week. Beljan, a University of New Mexico alumnus, won the New Mexico Open on Friday. He finished 112th in this year’s FedExCup.

Beljan had to work hard for the victory, winning on the second-hole of a four-man playoff. Beljan, Wil Collins, Scott Roudebush and Jimmy Gunn tied at 13-under 197 at the par-70 Santa Ana Golf Club. Collins missed an 8-foot par putt on the final hole that would’ve given him the outright victory. Roudebush shot a course-record 61 to tie for the lead, while Beljan made a 12-foot par putt on the final hole of regulation.

Beljan, who won the 2012 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic on the PGA TOUR, missed a 9-foot birdie putt on the New Mexico Open's first playoff hole, but won the tournament by rolling in an 8-footer for birdie on the second extra hole. Beljan shot 64-67-66 in regulation.

Beljan made seven of 24 cuts on the PGA TOUR this year. A playoff loss at the Northern Trust Open was his lone top-10 of the year.
