Mickelson makes fourth straight birdie

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- It's likely a case of too little, too late but Phil Mickelson appears to have finally gotten untracked at The Barclays.

He's just made his fourth straight birdie, draining a 53-footer at the 11th hole that moved him to 8 under for the tournament. Mickelson is currently tied for fourth, four strokes off the lead held jointly by Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland.

The leaders won't tee off for another 28 minutes, though.

Mickelson also birdied the par-5 sixth hole for the four straight day, two-putting from 57 feet. He birdied the next par 5, making an 8-footer at No. 8, then followed with a 10-footer and a 17-footer.

Mickelson started the FedExCup Playoffs ranked fourth and is currently projected to maintain that spot. Sunday's round should give him momentum heading into next week's Deutsche Bank Championship, which he won in 2007.
