Glover shoots 73 on broken toe

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Lucas Glover is playing hurt at the Wyndham Championship. He broke the middle toe on his right foot at around 2 a.m. Wednesday while checking on his 3-month-old daughter, Lucille. Glover bumped into her swing while checking on her early in the morning. Glover, who started the week at No. 99 in the FedExCup, shot 3-over 73 in the first round.

“I’m going to play this week, next week and see if I can get into Boston (the Deutsche Bank Championship),” Glover said. The top 100 in the FedExCup standings after next week’s The Barclays advance to the Deutsche Bank.

He wore sneaker-style shoes Thursday because the larger toe box took pressure off his toe. Glover made bogey on four of his first seven holes. A bogey at the par-5 15th dropped him to 5 over for the day. He made his first two birdies of the day at Nos. 17 and 18.

Glover, who grew up in Greenville, S.C., and attended Clemson, failed to qualify for last year’s FedExCup Playoffs while struggling with a knee injury.
