FedExCup points even more coveted

AKRON, Ohio -- While Tiger Woods stalks what would be his 18th World Golf Championships victory at the Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday, other players competing at Firestone will have their eyes on the FedExCup standings that the world No. 1 also happens to lead.

Only the top 125 in the standings at the end of the Wyndham Championship are eligible to start the four-week FedExCup Playoffs series that culminates with the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola where someone will win the $10 million bonus. Players are eliminated each week -- trimming the field from 125 to 100 to 70 to 30 -- so the more points earned, the better.

In addition to the Bridgestone Invitational and the Reno-Tahoe Open played opposite it, players can also accrue points at next week's PGA Championship and Wyndham Championship in hopes of becoming eligible for the Playoffs. Nicolas Colsaerts, who starts the final round at Firestone tied for 49th, is the current bubble boy at No. 125.

Here are some players competing Sunday who are on the outside looking in -- No. 131 Martin Kaymer, who is tied for 17th; No. 135 Tommy Gainey, who is solo 69th; and No. 140 Peter Hanson, who is tied for 28th.
