Greens hand-watered overnight

GULLANE, Scotland -- Speedy greens and what some players suggested were a few questionable pin placements were among the abundant storylines in the first round of The Open Championship.

Those greens were hand-watered overnight and double cut this morning at 4 milimeters. The greens will roll at 10.5 on the Stimpmeter, rather than 11 as was the case on Thursday -- and while they'll pick up speed as the day progresses the dramatic difference between the morning and afternoon waves in the first round aren't expected.

Muirfield will play at 7,171 yards, which is about 21 yards less than what would be its full length.
