Jimenez makes turn in 31

GULLANE, Scotland -- As the morning's marquee players tee off at Muirfield, a 49-year-old Spaniard is stealing the spotlight up ahead.

Miguel Angel Jimenez, the red-haired man with the curly ponytail and penchant for fine wine and cigars, has just made the turn in 5 under and owns a two-stroke lead over his countryman Rafael Cabrera-Bello. He birdied his first three holes and added another at No. 5 to get to 4 under, then made his fifth at the ninth hole.

Jimmy Walker, who is playing in his first Open Championship, is among three players tied at 2 under. He just made the turn and is joined at that number by Martin Kaymer, who has played seven holes, and Dustin Johnson, who who just birdied the fifth.

Three former Open champions -- Stewart Cink, Ben Curtis and Todd Hamilton are 1 under, through 10, 8 and 14 holes, respectively. Also in red numbers are Brandt Snedeker, Nick Watney, Oliver Fisher, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Shane Lowry and Jonas Blixt.
