Last chance to secure PLAYERS invite

In winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Sunday, Billy Horschel not only claimed his first career PGA TOUR win but also secured a spot in next week's THE PLAYERS Championship -- a particular sweet invite considering that Horschel lives in Jacksonville Beach, Fla., just up the road from the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Ponte Vedra Beach.

The Zurich Classic was also the last weekend for players to secure their spots in THE PLAYERS by virtue of being inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking. Players not otherwise qualified who claimed their spots include: Sweden's Peter Hanson (No. 21), Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (31), Branden Grace (32), George Coetzee (45) and Richard Sterne (50) of South Africa; Thorbjorn Olesen (33) of Denmark); Jamie Donaldson (35) of Wales; Paul Lawrie (40) of Scotland; Francesco Molinari (41) of Italy; and Nicolas Colsaerts (42) of Belgium.

Another qualifying category finalized after the Zurich Classic was the top 10 in FedExCup points. Each of the top 10 players in FedExCup points had previously qualified, thus no players played their way on Sunday. But the list will be used to fill the field to 144 players (the Champion's Tour Joe Daley does not count against the field) if necessary due to withdrawals. Luke Guthrie (No. 30), Brian Stuard (44) and James Hahn (51) are the next three players in FedExCup points not otherwise qualified.

There is still one last chance for players to get into THE PLAYERS -- win this week's Wells Fargo Championship. Below is the list of players in the field at Quail Hollow who have not qualified for THE PLAYERS and thus need a win this week. Among the notables: 2006 PLAYERS champ Stephen Ames; past Masters champs Trevor Immelman and Mike Weir; and nine-time TOUR winner Stuart Appleby.
