Alistair Presnell, a 32-year-old native of Melbourne, Australia, who has made two cuts in three weeks on the PGA TOUR, fired a 67 in the Waste Management Phoenix Open Monday qualifier at McCormick Ranch Golf Club to earn medalist honors.

The Aussie secured his 2013 PGA TOUR card by finishing 23rd on the Web.com Tour in 2012 and already has a T36 finish at the Sony Open this season.  Earlier this month at the Humana Challenge, Presnell posted a third-round 65.

Last summer, Presnell qualified for the U.S. Open and finished in a tie for 29th. He also posted four top 10s on the 2012 Web.com Tour, including a runner-up at the Miccosukee Championship. His best career finish in a PGA TOUR event came at the 2010 World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, where he tied for sixth.

The final two qualifying spots went to John Hurley and Edward Loar, who both shot 68 before having to come back Tuesday and grind out a four-man playoff. Hurley birdied the first playoff hole and Loar parred the third hole to secure the Thursday start.

Hurley, a 6-foot-4, 26-year-old native of O’Neill, Neb., last played in a PGA TOUR event (other than q school) last summer, when he Monday-qualified in the John Deere Classic.

Loar, a 35-year-old Dallas native who played golf at Oklahoma State University, played 23 events on the PGA TOUR in 2012, with his best outing coming at the Puerto Rico Open (T25). He won his first Web.com Tour title at the Panama Claro Championship in 2012 and ended the year by finishing eighth at the Web.com Tour Championship at Craig Ranch. He just missed earning a 2013 PGA TOUR card last fall at q-school.
