Snedeker fires 65 to lead

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Brandt Snedeker has now played 23 rounds at the Farmers Insurance Open and is a cumulative 52 under.

His most recent round of 65, shot on the generally more generous North Course, earned Snedeker the clubhouse lead when he finished. Snedeker, who made seven birdies on Thursday, owns a share of the course record of 61 on the North.

Just before Snedeker finished, Charles Howell III made a 10-footer for birdie at the 15th hole on the North Course to move into a tie at 7 under. Howell, who is bidding to end a six-year victory drought, lost in a playoff last week at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation and tied for third at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Snedeker won last year's Farmers Insurance Open in a playoff with Kyle Stanley. He has a stellar record at Torrey Pines, finishing third in his 2007 debut, tying for second in 2010 and sharing ninth in 2011.

Tag Ridings, who aced the third hole at the South Course with a pitching wedge, three-putted the 18th hole to finish with a 67. He's tied with Bo Van Pelt, Jerry Kelly and Jimmy Walker, all three of whom are in the clubhouse, while Adam Hadwin, Luke List, Mike Weir and Tiger Woods are still on the course at 5 under.
