Ten birdies for Phil, who shoots 64

Mickelson birdies the13th

In one of his 10 birdies on the day, Phil Mickelson hits his tee shot to 10 feet on the 174-yard par-3 13th hole and makes the putt.

CARMEL, Ind. – Phil Mickelson tied a career high by carding 10 birdies in Saturday’s third round of the BMW Championship.

Mickelson’s last birdie came from the fringe at the 18th hole, as he rolled in a 15-foot, 6-inch putt for an 8-under 64. That leaves him at 16 under for the tournament,  currently one shot back of leader Vijay Singh.

“Tomorrow’s going to be a shootout,” Mickelson said. “… I just like the fact that I’m in the mix.”

This is the seventh time in Mickelson’s career that he has posted 10 birdies in one round. His last time before Saturday came in the opening round of the 2006 BellSouth Classic at TPC Sugarloaf.

Mickelson one-putted nine other greens in addition to his birdie at the 18th on Saturday.
