Allen/Frost closing in at Liberty Mutual

Michael Allen is closing on a second win in as many weeks on the Champions Tour, leading the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf with teammate David Frost.

The team is 29 under with two holes to play, two shots ahead of playing partners Brad Bryant and Tom Purtzer, the only other team that can catch them. John Cook and Joey Sindelar have the clubhouse lead at 28 under but, barring an unlikely bogey from Allen/Frost in the better-ball format, 28 under won’t get it done.

Allen and Frost tied for third last year at Savannah Harbor Golf Resort, one shot out of a playoff. Allen won last week at the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay, ending a long winless drought. He won his first start on TOUR at the 2009 Senior PGA Championship, but didn’t win again until last week at TPC Tampa Bay.

Allen came into the week leading the Charles Schwab Cup race by 157 points over Bernhard Langer and will expand his lead.
