Wi shoots 69, still leads -- for now

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Charlie Wi’s lead was tested  few times Saturday, and still may be with Padraig Harrington on the golf course, but a bogey-free 3-under 69 at Spyglass Hill leaves him atop the leaderboard.

For just how long we’ll find out. Harrington is three shots back and has a half-dozen holes to play. Tiger Woods is another shot back from that, but he’s down to his final hole. Ken Duke is also 11 under.

Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson aren’t far behind, either, with both at 9 under. Mickelson shot a 2-under 70 at Pebble Beach, while Johnson is even through 17 holes at Monterey Peninsula.

Vijay Singh is also 9 under and he still has six holes to go at Monterey Peninsula.

As for Wi, he might not have made a lot of birdies, but he didn’t make any mistakes. He hit 11 fairways and 14 greens and took 29 putts on the hardest golf course here. Friday he talked about having more confidence and it certainly showed on Saturday.
