Wagner likes Waialae’s back nine

HONOLULU – If you’re looking for a player who might have the edge on the final nine holes of Sunday’s final round at Waialae, check out Johnson Wagner.

Wagner has just reached the 10th hole at 11 under, tied for the lead with Harrison Frazar and Michael Thompson.

Wagner has burned up the back nine in the previous three rounds – he’s a collective 12 under, with eight birdies and two eagles … and no bogeys.

He’s birdied the par-4 12th in each of the first three days and at the par-5 18th, he posted birdie on the first day and eagles on each of the next two rounds.

It’s no surprise that he’s led the field this week in back-nine scoring average with 31.0.

It also bodes well for his chances to win down the stretch.
