Update: Horschel takes the lead

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- When we last checked in with Billy Horschel, he was at 9 under, one shot behind co-leaders Michael Thompson and Webb Simpson. Three holes later, Horschel is alone atop the leaderboard, but he too the scenic route. The 2010 q-school graduate bogeyed No. 13 at Sea Island to fall two off the pace before rolling in an 11-foot eagle putt on the par-5 15th and a 14-foot birdie putt on the following hole to reach 11 under and pass the former co-leaders. Playing in the afternoon’s final group with Bud Cauley (-4) and William McGirt (-2), Horschel has to get by the 166-yard par-3 17th and 470-yard par-4 18th to take sole possession of the 54-hole lead.
