Leaderboard update: Charl on move

NORTON, Mass. – Charl Schwartzel is on the move Saturday afternoon during the second round of the Deutsche Bank Championship.

The South African, who celebrated his 27th birthday on Wednesday, has just made four straight birdies on the front nine to move to 8 under for the tournament. Bubba Watson continues to lead at 10 under after shooting 64 on Saturday.

Schwartzel made a 7-footer at No. 1 and two-putted from 50 feet at the par-5 second. He added a 14-footer for another birdie at the third hole, then hit his drive at the 297-yard, par-4 fourth hole left of the green but pin-high, chipped on and tapped in from 6 inches.

Adam Scott has joined the reigning Masters champion in a tie for third. He’s 6 under for the day through 13 holes after making four birdies and an eagle at the 18th hole, his ninth of the day.

Meanwhile, the cut line continues to hold at 2 over with Tommy Gainey, Vijay Singh, Jimmy Walker, D.A. Points, Kevin Chappell, Spencer Levin, Marc Leishman, Brian Gay and PLAYERS champion K.J. Choi on the course with work to do.

Leishman came into the week as the bubble boy, ranked 70th, and is now projected at No. 85. Gay was 71st at the start of the week and now stands 87th.

Chappell is the only other player on the course but below the cut line who wouldn’t be safe if he makes an early exit after starting the week at No. 74.
