No PGA TOUR pro has played more rounds with comedian Bill Murray at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am than Scott Simpson.
The two teamed together 13 times in the PGA TOUR event. Once Simpson left to play on the Champions Tour, the relationship continued and he won the 2006 Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach with Murray as his partner.
So we asked PGATOUR.COM correspondent Craig Dolch, who is covering the Allianz Championship this week, to ask Simpson if he had any words of wisdom for D.A. Points, who is Simpson's partner at Pebble Beach. Points currently stands second, four strokes off the lead held by Steve Marino.
Dolch found Simpson in the parking lot of The Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Fla., where the 1987 U.S. Open champ had just shot a 66 that left him two shots off the lead in the Champions Tour event.
“D.A. is playing great," Simpson said. "... My advice to D.A. is just have fun, go with it. Sounds like he is."
Simpson said he definitely misses playing with his friend. At the same time, he knows it can be a challenge.
“Was it difficult?" Simpson said. "Possibly a little bit because you get out of your routine. But to me it was worth it to have so much fun playing golf." – Helen Ross
