Hole 15: Kaymer’s miss proves costly

MARANA, Ariz. – Hole-by-hole coverage from the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play final between Luke Donald and Martin Kaymer.

No. 15 Par 4 309 yards

Martin Kaymer is running out of holes. There are no more par 5s left, but he does have this drivable par 4 to make some noise.

Donald hits first and his tee shot is accurate but short of the green. He’s 74 feet away from the pin, a smart, safe shot.

Kaymer’s drive drifts to the right of Donald’s. It clears the bunker but doesn’t find the green. He’s 52 feet, 3 inches from the pin but he really needed to find the green and give himself an eagle chance.

The breeze is left to right as Donald stands over his chip. He sends the ball to the left of the pin and lets it drift back. An excellent shot, inside 3 feet.

Kaymer answers with his own chip just inside 4 feet.

Kaymer concedes Donald’s birdie putt, but Donald makes Kaymer putt out. It proves to be a good decision.

Kaymer misses his short birdie putt to give away the hole. Donald is dormie, 3 up with three to play.

CONSOLATION UPDATE: Bubba Watson is making a late bid to get back into the match. He’s won the 16th with his birdie – just the second hole he has won all day – and is now 1 down to Matt Kuchar with two holes to play.
